SUNDANCE

SUNDANCE

2020 ~ Acrylic on Canvas ~ 72 x 48 inches

The year is 2020. A tiny little virus has been trying to apply brakes on the world. It has even succeeded in halting many components that were in perpetual motion before, casting a gloom all over. The ingenious human mind however, does not know how to stay still for very long. It meanders around the blocks in its path, to generate new pathways. These pathways discovered due to a crisis, are many a times speedier and more dependable that the ones before.

Sundance was painted live, during the annual day event of my firm, held virtually for the first time. It depicts a set of two trees basking in the sun, with branches intertwined, strong trunks and fearless roots. Trees are fascinating and present everywhere. Even in a crowded and concretized city like Mumbai, one can see trees more than one expects to see. Trees that are really old. Embedded in walls and buildings. Standing their ground through the years. With branches reaching out to the limitless sky. With gnarled, tenacious and proud roots, not afraid to see the light above the ground. They symbolize strength, resilience, endurance and growth.

It was a dedication to the firm, painted incorporating the firm colours - violet, orange and gold. Gold in the painting is the sunlight dancing on the trees, giving us positivity. Telling us that even in these times of crisis, there is a silver lining. Nature has reclaimed the Earth. Trees around us are resplendent. We hear birds chirping. The seas and the skies have never been bluer.
